MALP® training for adult education is custom-designed for each program. Options include workshops and institutes, remote coaching, distance mentoring, and consultation.
MALP® Workshops and Institutes are designed to help educators address the needs of students with limited or interrupted formal education (SLIFE) and other struggling culturally and linguistically diverse learners.
List of Adult Education programs using MALP®
Overview of MALP® Workshop
Suitable for a conference speaking engagement, the overview presents the rationale for MALP®. This workshop provides awareness level information for the audience. Participants can then follow up with further training options.
Half-day MALP® Workshop
Tailored either to administrators or teachers, this workshop provides an overview of MALP®, along with participatory activities designed to prepare the audience to implement MALP®.
Full-day MALP® Workshop
Provides an overview of MALP®, followed by participatory activities designed to prepare the audience to implement MALP®. In addition, participants work together to design a MALP® project and share their plans with colleagues for analysis and feedback. Participants leave the workshop with all of the MALP® projects created that day.
MALP® Institutes
For full training on the MALP® instructional model for implementation in your program or classroom, we offer 2- or 3-day MALP® Institutes. These institutes are designed to provide participants with in-depth training on the MALP® culturally responsive instructional approach, instructional guidelines, classroom activities and projects, and assessment rubrics.
After participating in one of our Institutes, participants will:
- Understand the research base underlying MALP®
- Know the importance of culturally responsive teaching and project-based learning for struggling ELLs
- Be able to implement the MALP® framework with their population
- Understand how MALP® implementation promotes academic achievement and success in meeting standards
Two-day MALP® Institute
This Institute includes, in addition to the full-day workshop, a second day in which participants expand their knowledge of MALP® by creating Theme Booklets following the guidelines of project-based learning and MALP®, aligned with their standards and curriculum and focused on developing school-based language and tasks for learning. Using the MALP® Teacher Planning Checklist, participants analyze the incorporation of MALP® into the plans for the Theme Booklet Projects and conclude by focusing on designing their own MALP® Project.
Three-day MALP® Institute
We offer two types of three-day institutes. Option 1 integrates material from the two-day institute and asks participants to engage in collaborative work to create a MALP® Learning Environment and design MALP® projects. Option 2 uses a Flipped Learning approach, asking participants to prepare for the training in advance by viewing select multimedia materials prior to each day’s training.
